  • A federal judge ordered the White House to "preserve all media," including e-mail, "presently in their possess sic or under their custody or control, that were created with the intention of preserving data in the event of its destruction." Significantly, the judge ordered that the White House "shall not transfer said media out of their custody or control" without first getting permission from the court.

The decision stems from two cases, that were consolidated today, seeking to enforce a federal law requiring the White House to preserve e-mails.
