CHICAGO, Oct. 15 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following is a statement from Democratic Gubernatorial Candidate Ed Scanlan:
"The people of Illinois deserve a powerful voice to recall their elected officials when they see fit, particularly in light of our state's sad history of political corruption.
There are 18 other states with provisions to recall their elected officials.
Illinois would be the only one that requires the voters to obtain permission from the legislature prior to seeking the recall of an elected official.
Illinois would be the only one that limits recall solely to the office of the Governor.
This flawed proposal has no place in our state's constitution. It does nothing for the people of Illinois and serves only to protect the power of the political elite while creating the appearance of reform. I'm confident that the voters will reject this next November when it appears on the ballot."
