WASHINGTON, Sept. 18/PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- With an uncontested race to be the Democratic nominee for Nevada governor, the Democratic Governors Association has moved the race into its top tier of pickup opportunities.
"After years of budget mismanagement, cuts to vital services and ethics problems, Nevada voters want real leadership from their governor," said Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer, chair of the Democratic Governors Association. "Rory Reid is a capable executive and true public servant. He's built a strong foundation of leadership - one that will create good jobs, revitalize the economy and put Nevada back on the right path."
Democrats have achieved tremendous victories in Nevada in the past five years. President Obama won the state by 12 points. Two of the three members of the delegation to the U.S. House are Democrats. Democrats only narrowly lost the governorship in 2006.
"With no primary on the Democratic side, we will have a straight path to victory in Nevada," said Nathan Daschle, the DGA's executive director. "The DGA will fully engage politically with Commissioner Reid, helping him to build and execute a winning strategy. We believe that Nevada is ripe for Democratic leadership."
Going into the critical 2009 and 2010 election year, when 39 governorships are on the ballot, the Democratic Governors Association is well-positioned to provide candidates with the resources they need to compete. Already this year, the DGA has broken its all-time fundraising record for the first six months of the year, bringing in $11.6 million.
