WASHINGTON, May 9 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Two European parliamentarians will meet with key U.S. government officials from Wednesday, May 14 through Friday, May 16, 2008 to deliver Amnesty International's framework for ending illegal U.S. detentions. This petition has been signed by over 1,200 parliamentarians from 30 countries.
Sir Menzies Campbell (Member of the U.K. Parliament) and Christophe Strasser (Member of the German Parliament) will promote Amnesty International's proposition urging U.S. authorities to close Guantanamo, end extraordinary renditions practices and release or charge all detainees.
Mr. Campbell and Mr. Strasser will meet with leaders across the U.S. government including representatives of the U.S. Department of State, the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee, the Senate Judiciary Committee, the Office of Senator McCain and U.S. Navy Commander Scott Butler.
Representing the voice of 1,200 signatories worldwide, of all political persuasions, the Parliamentarians' visit demonstrates the breadth and depth of opposition to illegal practices in the war on terror.
