American Hunters and Shooters President Ray Schoenke Responds to Clinton Montana Director: ´Let´s Debate Obama and Clinton on Gun Issues, Any Time, Any Place´

WASHINGTON, Apr. 17 /PRNewswire/ --

WASHINGTON, April 17 /PRNewswire/ -- On the heels of yesterday's endorsement of Senator Barack Obama, the American Hunters and Shooters Association (AHSA) President Ray Schoenke today responded to a challenge issued by Clinton for President Montana state director Matt McKenna by saying that he would be glad to discuss the unfounded allegations against Senator Barack Obama that he supports the banning of all handguns, "at any place and at any time."

"I am ready and I am anxious to share a platform with Mr. McKenna, at any place and at any time to discuss these important issues to hunters and shooters and to all those who respect the Constitution of the United States," said Schoenke.

Schoenke continued, "As Senator Obama once again confirmed at last night's Philadelphia debate, he firmly believes the 2nd amendment guarantees an individual right to keep and bear arms and has never supported the banning of all handguns. AHSA believes all American sportsmen and sportswomen should take Senator Obama at his word on this issue."

"I desperately want to hear from Mr. McKenna a full and fair explanation of Senator Clinton's vote against the "Vitter amendment" to HR 5441, the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations bill of 2007."

"The bottom line issue for gun owners is a fear of government confiscation of firearms from law abiding citizens. Why would Senator Clinton cast a vote against the fundamental rights of all citizens to defend themselves or their families in the time of an emergency? Senator Clinton enjoys Secret Service protection at all times. By contrast, the citizens of New Orleans were on their own during hurricane Katrina."

"Let's hear from Mr. McKenna immediately as to where and when he would like to publicly debate these issues. I'm ready," concluded Schoenke.
