DNC Statement on the Fortieth Anniversary of the Signing of the Civil Rights Act of 1968

WASHINGTON, Apr. 11 /PRNewswire/ --

WASHINGTON, April 11 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean issued the following statement on the fortieth anniversary of the signing of the Civil Rights Act of 1968, a bill that prohibits discrimination in the housing market, by President Lyndon B. Johnson:

"On this day 40 years ago, our nation took an important step forward in the fight to ensure that all Americans have the same rights and opportunities. No individual or family should face discrimination, whether it's at work, at school, or when buying or renting a home. We have made great gains in promoting equality, but more work can be done. As Democrats, we reaffirm our commitment to the values we hold dear -- equality, justice, and fairness for all -- and on this anniversary pledge to continue to fight for civil rights as a Party and as Americans."
