Virginia Supreme Court upholds power line plan
By LARRY O'DELL Associated Press Writer RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The Virginia Supreme Court upheld permits for construction of a multistate power line Thursday, rejecting a claim by the project's opponents that state regulators ceded too much authority to the federal government.

Neb. lawmakers continue special session on Friday
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Nebraska lawmakers have only one more day to introduce bills in their budget-cutting special session. Friday is the last day senators can introduce bills to help deal with a projected $334 million shortfall in the state's two-year budget. A dozen bills have been introduced so far since the session began on Wednesday.

Obama to sign extension of jobless benefits
WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama is set to sign a bill extending jobless benefits 20 weeks and prolonging the $8,000 homebuyer tax credit. The law is also aimed at spurring job creation by giving an additional tax cut to struggling businesses.
