Number 9

University of Nevada at Las Vegas (UNLV)

Credit UNLV for coming out of nowhere to grab a spot in the Tarnished Twenty Final 2000 Rankings. Overcoming the repetitive misdoings of a number of NCAA football counterparts, the Runnin' Rebels have managed to leapfrog into the Top Ten, no less.

According to Henderson City Attorney's Office, linebacker Tyler Brickell allegedly broke his ex-girlfriend's middle finger and bruised her arms during a September 2nd domestic dispute. Brickell must now answer charges of misdemeanor domestic battery stemming from the incident. Brickell may be subject to sanctions, but so far there has been no disciplinary action against him. Curiously, not long after his arrest in October, Brickell was allowed to travel to Oxford, Mississippi for a crucial match-up against Ole Miss. A trial date has been set for December.

The Tarnished Twenty salutes UNLV for stretching innocent until proven guilty to a profound extreme. As long as I'm writing this column, violence towards women and a cavalier attitude about it will certainly account for major points in the Tarnished Twenty Final Rankings. Let's hope, for the sake of everyone involved, that a better ending does transpire for all the parties involved.
