Drug abuse prevention extends from programs such as DARE ("Drug Abuse Resistance Education") to drug testing,
rehabilitation, and anti-drug coalitions. Below is a list of programs and groups directed at preventing drug abuse.
Some of programs and entities are aimed only at athletes; others are more general in scope.
- Anabolic Steroid Control Act of 1990 Federal Law intended to better regulate the production, sale, and use of steroids for non-medical purposes.

- Center for Drug Free Living A comprehensive, community-based, substance abuse treatment and prevention agency.
- Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America Non-profit coalition of community-based drug prevention programs.
- The Controlled Substances Act Federal law designating certain substances as "controlled", indicating legal uses, and providing penalties for illegal use.
- D.A.R.E. Drug Abuse Resistance Education - a widespread elementary and middle-school program designed to stop drug use before it starts.
