  • An Australian faces Military Commission terror-related charges filed by the U.S. Department of Defense. Hicks was captured by the Northern Alliance in December 2001.

    He is accused of training at al Qaeda terrorist training camps, and taking multiple terrorism courses taught by the group in Afghanistan. He allegedly met now-convicted British 'show-bomber' Richard Reid' at “an advanced al Qaeda course on information collection and surveillance“ in Kabul. Students in the course reportedly conducted surveillance and intelligence gathering operations on the American and British Embassies in Afghanistan for al Qaeda.

    After participating in weapons and related terrorist training courses in Afghanisatn, Hicks is accused of supporting al Qaeda by his activities, and the attempted murder of American and other Coalition Forces engaged in combat with al Qaeda after September 11th.
