Federal Prosecutors' Notice of Possible Madoff Case SettlementU.S. v. Bernard MadoffMarch 6, 2009 |
|
The U.S. Attorney in Manhattan filed a notice suggesting that they intend to settle the criminal case against Bernard Madoff, the accused Ponzi scheme investment manager. The filing states that Acting U.S. Attorney Lev Dassin's office "will file an information upon [Madoff]'s wavier of indictment." A criminal information is customarily filed by federal prosecutors only when the defendant waives the right to have a grand jury consider evidence for an indictment. This usually means that the defendant intends to enter into a plea agreement to avoid an indictment and trial. You can read the prosecutors' notice below: |
