  • Two hemp farmers in North Dakota sue the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and Department of Justice, alleging that the federal Controlled Substances Act prohibits them from selling hemp fiber, sterilized seed and seed oil because “the industrial hemp plant itself is of the same species -- Cannibis sativa L. -- as that defined as 'Marihuana' under federal law.“ They maintain that the prohibition puts them at a competitive disadvantage because hemp farmers in “more than 30 countries” can sell their legal hemp in the U.S., but their U.S. business can’t.
