Liberian government official reportedly killed

MONROVIA, Liberia (AP) - Liberian media are reporting that a government official has been shot and killed by a gang of men outside the African country's capital.

Star Radio and the Daily Observer newspaper reported Monday that Public Procurement and Concession Commission chief Keith Jubah was killed late Sunday while visiting his rubber farm 35 miles (55 kilometers) north of Monrovia.

The news outlets quoted members of Jubah's family about the killing, and police saying it is being investigated.

Jubah's commission was established after Liberia's civil war ended in 2003.

It is one of several institutions set up to fight corruption, which is endemic in the West African nation. The agency reviews business deals and scrutinizes government expenditures.
