Obama declines comment on Afghan election

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama is declining comment for now on the end of Afghanistan's tumultuous election.

Afghanistan's election commission declared President Hamid Karzai a re-election victor on Monday after challenger Abdullah Abdullah pulled out of a scheduled runoff for this coming Saturday. The development capped a fraud-marred election that comes just as Obama considers sending more troops to Afghanistan.

Obama was asked for his reaction to the election as he ended a meeting Monday with economic advisers at the White House.

He said: "I'm sure I will have some comments in the weeks to come." But Obama said the purpose of his meeting was about creating jobs.
