Biker claims LA doc deliberately caused crash

LOS ANGELES (AP) - A Los Angeles doctor accused of deliberately injuring two bicyclists by slamming on his car brakes is being sued by a rider who crashed through the rear window.

Dr. Christopher Thompson was sued Thursday in federal court for negligence and battery.

Ron Peterson claims he and another biker suffered permanent injuries in the July 4, 2008, crash.

His lawsuit claims the 60-year-old emergency room physician pulled alongside the riders and exchanged angry words before cutting in front and hitting the brakes.

Thompson also faces criminal charges. He's pleaded not guilty to battery and reckless driving. He could face up to five years in prison if convicted.

His attorney calls the crash an accident.
